The Consequences Of Racism In Sports Media

By Leslie Ball

Originally, people were born, grew up, worked and eventually died in their respective communities. The need to move out into places never really bothered people so much. When transportation channels developed and now people could easily move from one place to another, things changed. The change escalated when the national governments decided to urbanize the communities. The consequences of racism in sports media are catastrophic in nature.

The creation of large cities and urban centers in some parts of the country made people to migrate to those parts of the community in search better opportunities at life. Their assumptions were that these urban centers had so many money making opportunities that they could not fail to get one. On reaching these places however, the reality sunk in these people was really frustrated at that.

The mixture of cultures in these cities created a complex situation of coexistence. This was not received so well by many people and it led to treat other cultures differently from their own. Different characters and habits developed within the people. This was a community without a common identity or any other unifying factor, cooperation was hard.

This combination of various cultures helped some people to learn about the other and while some appreciated the cultural ways of the others, majority only despised them for their apparent inferiority. This aspect caused conflict among the people and with time created enmity. This led to the development of certain vices that hindered coexistence of these cultural ways.

Tribalism and tribal favoritism were also popular in these cities. Majority of people preferred to associate with only their tribe and these made sure only those related to them got the major deals and opportunities in the community. This created a situation of conflict and disagreement between the people forcing them to treat each other indifferently on tribal basis.

One of the worst vices to be ever developed in these metropolitan states is that of racism. This is basically the segregation or treatment of people different basing on their particular race or color of their skins. This act this has been condemned harshly by both government and human activists over the years however there are still traces of it especially in the sports media.

This was especially in the sports media. A sport is an activity carried out for leisure purposes, most of these activities are competitive in nature and at the end one or more of the players are expected to emerge victors. The commonest sports activities carried out include examples such as rugby, volleyball, basketball and others. The particular sport played depends on the place. Some people involve self in sports for leisure and recreation whiles other for economic reasons.

This situation created such problems as the media houses were at the fore front of the racism vice. A certain media house would make it a point to discredit the players that are from other racial affiliations. This challenged the sports industry and almost crippled if it were not for legal interventions.
