Learn Your Home Staging Certification Options

By Paul Kelly

With the popularity of HGTV, viewers have seen the value of tastefully staging a home that is on the market. Properly placed furniture with coordinating accents make an empty room look one hundred percent more appealing. Potential buyers walk into the house and instantly feel at home. You can earn your home staging certification and begin working in a career that is creative and exciting.

There are many options for certification, with prices ranging from two hundred dollars to three thousand dollars. The classroom programs provide opportunities for students to apply theory learned in the classroom. The students actually work on homes that are on the market. Studying theory alone cannot compare to actual application of that theory. Classroom programs cost a lot more money than the online programs, and this may factor into your choice.

Students are told to expect to earn fifty thousand to a hundred thousand a year. For many people, this would be considered a good income. It is important to remember that you are self employed. The programs will teach you how to attract and keep clients, and how to collect for your services. If you have never owned your own business before, there is a lot to learn.

One of the programs holds courses in five major cities, from San Francisco to New York. The Real Estate Staging Association endorses this program. The program is five days long and includes classroom study and time spent actually staging houses that are on the market. The program is almost three thousand dollars, and includes courses on how to start your own business. The classes are kept small, with eight students being the maximum. Students are also mentored for two months after completing the course.

The online programs are much less expensive, but do not offer the same thorough curriculum. For less than two hundred dollars you can earn your certification online through and email course. The advantages are that there are no travel expenses and you can work at your own pace. This option is worth your consideration if money is an issue.

There is another three day program with classroom instruction and field work. The cost of this program is eighteen hundred dollars. Classroom time and field work are included, but no mentoring. Once completed, your designation for your business card will be ASP, which stands for Accredited Staging Professional. The same institution offers a comprehensive masters program for just under three thousand.

Some courses are intended to educate real estate agents, and can be used as their continuing education credits. Each course is offered separately and costs under seventy dollars. For five hundred dollars, you can purchase a mentorship program for some hands on training.

Whichever option you choose, the important thing is to get the certification and get working. Anything that you may have missed in training you will pick up when you are on the job. With online training you will not have to worry about location. With classroom training you will need to select a location and dates that work with your schedule. Welcome to this creative and exciting career.
