What Determines Vending Machine Placement

By Ruth Gibson

People choose different business ventures, depending on factors like the available capital. For people who go into sales, they know that location is key. When deciding on vending machine placement, there are a number of factors, which will determine its location.

The location of your appliance will be determined by what you are selling. Most of these machines sell chips, chocolate bars, sodas and other snacks. Some may sell coffee and other hot beverages. In most cases, they are placed in cafeterias, lunchrooms, or the snack sector of a store. These machines are attractively designed to make sure that when you pass them, even if it was not your intention to buy, you will end up buying something.

People mainly tend to pass through places where they feel safe. The same applies to when they are buying. It is very hard for one to steal from a quality machine. Therefore, you do not have to worry about vandalism. The chosen location should be safe and easily accessible. Very few people will go to buy anything at a place that is poorly lit especially at night.

Most people who buy from these machines are impulse buyers. As a businessperson, you can take advantage of this by ensuring that your vending outlet is placed in a high traffic area. This will expose it to a large number of people, maximizing the possibility of making sales. Areas like subways, campus libraries and school cafeterias, are such areas. These ventures tend to start making money very quickly. If you have low sales in the first few months, you should consider a change of location or variation in stock of items.

When people are seated for long, they will tend to snack on small treats. You can take advantage of this and locate it in an area where people spend a lot of time seated. This can include salons, bus stops and even barbershops. You can also target areas where people tend to make stop overs, these are areas like gas stations, fast food shops and pharmacies among other places.

When locating the vending equipment you will need to speak to the owner of this place you want to place it. If you are placing it in a shop or a supermarket, you need to convince the owner to place it somewhere where it is visible and not stick it in the back. You will also need to agree on the price that they will charge you for using their premises.

Looking around for a perfect spot may be a very tiresome and stressful experience. To avoid this, you can hire a company to locate the premises for you. This company will scout all the positions, and then help you select one that is best suited for you. Before completing the transaction, you should confirm this location yourself, and talk to the owner of the area to ensure that he or she spoke to the right person.

As a businessperson, you should always be on the lookout for new opportunities. When you hear of a new office, shop or mall opening, you should start making inquiries about whether you can place your machine within the premises. This should be done before a number of months before the opening, to ensure the spot is not given to someone more aggressive.
