With Notary Services Los Angeles Residents Have Access To Professional Assistance

By Eric Myers

It is a sad indictment on modern society that nobody can afford to trust anyone else any longer, especially when getting involved in legal matters. These days, everything has to be recorded formally, it has to be witnessed and notarized and it has to be filed. If this is not done, no agreement will be viewed as valid or else it will be subject to denial. But with reputable notary services Los Angeles citizens do have access to professionals that can help them to notarize their dealings.

Ancient Rome is the origin of modern notaries. They were scribes that used to copy texts but very soon they also took on other tasks such as recording court cases, speeches and public hearings. They were deemed to be learned men. Modern notaries are deemed to be honourable individuals that are held in esteem, that have integrity and an impeccable record. They are appointed by government and sometimes by the court.

Some people think that the only duty performed by notaries is to certify copies of documents as true to the original. They do this very often, but it is not all they do. They also administer oaths, making sure that the person making the oath understands that any subsequent lie will be a criminal offence that can carry heavy penalties. Oaths are administered whenever someone wants to swear that he will speak nothing but the truth.

Taking down depositions and affidavits is another task often performed by notaries. Lawyers working on a case routinely take down depositions in order to study the intended testimony of witnesses when they prepare for their cases. In rare instances a deposition may even be introduced to court to serve as evidence but this is only allowed if the witness is not able to testify in person.

Individuals and businesses often ask notaries to certify that a specific agreement has been made between two or more parties and that all the parties accept the terms and conditions of that agreement. Thus notarized, agreements are much more difficult to dispute in a court of law. Notaries in some states of the USA are even licensed to perform wedding ceremonies.

Sometimes notaries are called upon to play very interesting roles. In some states in the USA they can perform marriage ceremonies. They are often asked to be official witnesses when groups of people or individuals try to set a new world record. In such cases the role of notaries is to certify the conditions under which the attempt took place and whether or not the rules governing such attempts were followed.

Notaries have to keep very detailed records of all the activities related to their positions. These records are important because they provide irrefutable proof that an oath was administers, an event took place, an agreement has been made between two or more parties or that an affidavit has been made. The very existence of these records is often more than enough to forestall disputes and conflict.

It is an honour to serve as a notary because only individuals regarded as morally strong, with unimpeachable integrity and a history for fairness and truth are considered. In any instance where they preside, their word is the final one. In a certain sense, notaries are the guardians of truth and fairness.
